Dealing With Injuries On The Dance Floor

Posted December 13th, 2011 by Regina Ruff

wham! Wham! An injury…. It hits you like a ton of bricks and catches you totally off guard. Your training plan, your goals, your daily living are suddenly held hostage by something completely out of your control.

Recently I’ve had quite a few friends who have had setbacks while competing due to injuries. Knees, feet, ankles, and shoulders all take on a lot of wear and tear while we dance. Overuse, improper stretching or just a freak misstep and POW! It can result in stress fractures, pulled or torn ligaments and muscles, and painful neuromas to name a few…. 035

How do you deal with these kind of setbacks? Can they be avoided? What is your opinion? Leave us a reply- we’d love to hear from you!

In the meantime, here is a picture of how one RSF dancer dealt with her knee injury during a recent RSC competition. You can’t keep a good man(woman) down!maxxpalleyred

Remember- keep dancing, but be smart and stay healthy! Take care of your bodies… they’re the only ones we have!

We’ve added another 384 square feet to our dance floor at Ballroom Revolution in Broken Arrow, OK. While unloading the floor from the truck I leaned over to grab a cordless drill and “POW” something grabbed in my lower back and its been locked up since! It’s always the little things that get ya…

Never say NO to me……the doc ‘recommended’ rest and recuperation…..however, I took responsibility for myself….
with PT and TLC listening to my body, I am dancing still….
and with my own style/design….crystals on the knee!

    Gotta move…gotta dance!
